Class 1 provides a happy and exciting learning environment where the children are fully involved in all aspects of their learning. A lot of activities in all aspects of the curriculum are of a practical nature. The children have access to outdoor play and thoroughly enjoy exploring using sand and water. The large Quadro models are amazing for role play, as is area inside the classroom which is transformed during the year into environments such as a cave, a house for the three bears, a vet’s surgery and a greengrocer’s shop.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAll curriculum areas are taught through topics and as a taster during the year class 1 will explore History through teddy bears, visit the portrait gallery at Montacute house when working on portraits in Art, sing amazing songs as part of their Christmas play with class 2, show Barnaby bear around Montacute in Geography, design, make and eat a healthy fruit salad in DT, visit the church in RE, grow lots of plants (some edible!) in Science.

The children have daily lessons in Numeracy and Literacy and develop basic skills in these areas during the year. Year 1 is certainly a busy and exciting year!
