Safeguarding

Many of you will be aware that the governors and I have been working together with regard to the procedures for travelling to and from school. This information sets out the changes that will be put into place from January 2014.

The most discussion was around the procedures with regard to school transport. Therefore, the biggest change will be for parents/carers in Acorn Class, Class 1 and Class 2, as we will be asking you to inform us in writing, in advance if your child will be travelling home on school transport. Please complete the attached form (Form 1) to let us know how you would like to inform us.

Parents/carers of Key Stage 2 children who travel on school transport, we are asking you to inform us (Form 2) how you would like to communicate whether your child/ren will be travelling on school transport. It was decided that as children get older they should be given more responsibility, however we are leaving the decision to you as to when you give this responsibility to your child.

Following on from our discussions around school transport, procedures for the beginning/end of the school day were also discussed. From January 2014, if you would like your child to be released from class/after school club without an adult collecting them you will need to complete the attached form ‘Travelling to and from school independently’ (Form 3). Children will only be released from class/after school club to a parent/carer or another designated person if notification has been given to the school prior to collection.

You will see from the attached flow charts the procedures that we have put in place and we hope that these are simple and clear. We ask that you adhere to these procedures to ensure the safeguarding of all of our pupils. If you need to change arrangements that have been put in place, we ask that this is done by 2.30pm at the latest, unless there is an unforeseen circumstance that prevents you from doing this, to ensure there is sufficient time to amend our registers.

We are aware that this is a lot of information to take in, and that the new procedures may be an added pressure, however the changes have been put into place in light of recent events and to ensure the safeguarding of all of our pupils and staff, which I know is of paramount importance to us all.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
